Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry for Small-Molecule Activation, Catalysis and Greener Chemistry
The Rohde group carries out fundamental research on the synthesis and chemistry of reactive transition metal complexes that is needed to design new synthetic and catalytic methods that utilize abundant and environmentally benign resources. Implementation of such methods in laboratory syntheses offers both environmental and economic advantages and may lead to the development of more sustainable industrial processes. Our interests in multi-electron redox transformations also intersect with chemistry relevant to biological processes and energy conversion. Combining synthesis, structural analysis and mechanistic studies, the research in our group is multifaceted and offers students broad experience and training.

Research Keywords
Inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, chemical synthesis, catalysis, green chemistry.

Research Interests
Activation of small and inert molecules for the use in chemical synthesis and catalysis; synthesis of reactive transition metal complexes; elucidation of molecular and electronic structure; organometallic O2 reactivity; inorganic reaction mechanisms.

Ongoing Research Topics
1. Activation of O2 and S8 by metal–alkene complexes
2. Synthesis and reactivity of high-oxidation-state complexes
3. Synthesis and reactivity of complexes of redox-active ligands
4. Interactions of metal–oxygen complexes with reactive nitrogen and reactive oxygen species (RNS and ROS)
